It’s been a while since I discussed this with Rob to check it’s finalized, but the plan is that the cards will not only serve as playing/action cards, but each one except the Jokers and deuces will carry one of the 24 runes. 48 cards, so there’s two of each rune in the deck.
The optional rule associated with them is simple: you get dealt a card in combat as normal, you spend a benny, and gain the rune’s power for that turn. Some allow you to pick from two options. Works equally for NPCs. This replaces the need for separate rune bennies (if you’re using that optinal system).
This (plus three books) can be yours if we reach £4000 total.
We figured it makes the action deck more interesting and more versatile for those who want something extra. And with bennies a finite though replenishable resource, it makes picking to activate a rune at any given time a player choice, not a guaranteed “gimme mo’ power!”
