the description of Necromancy on page 118 has the reviled actions of necromancy and then a the necromancer able to communicate with the dead for noble purposes.

This got me to thinking.

Would a necromancer have to have the corpse of the person they want to talk to with them, in front of them, know where it is etc? in order to speak with the dead? or can they cummon the spirit of the deceased from anywhere?

Does the spirit of the dead have to show up to the summoning? or is there a chance of it not working?

If it does show up is it forced to speak? does it have to tell the truth or can it lie?

What noble purposes were you thinking of when you wrote the description?

Officially, it works from anywhere. But you need a name. It isn't a generic random ghost summoning spell. Smile Sir Bobius Davis would work, but "a dead English knight" would not.

Unless you screw up the ritual (or the GM is being tight), it always shows up.

It isn't forced to do anything but answer the summons. Best have some good social skills on hand to converse with it (and detect if it is lying to you). I wouldn't recommend intimidation -- nothing you can do can hurt it, so it's pretty much immune to threats. Smile

Solving murders, revealing where something they hid to avoid it falling into enemy hands is located, passing on final words to a loved one, that sort of thing.

Awesome, thank you.

He said the butler did it, and he is very annoyed about it.

Dead? Nonsense - there's far more fun to be had ruining his life before killing him Twisted Evil At least I'll be living up to my reputation of being a "dicus" Shocked
